Advantage Steel Awarded ISNetworld® RAVS Plus Safety Designation

Advantage Steel & Construction is proud to announce that we have received the ISNetworld® RAVS Plus Safety recognition. This prestigious designation demonstrates our unwavering commitment to safety across all aspects of our operations.

RAVS Plus is a safety compliance standard only awarded to a small fraction of ISNetworld® participants. The designation requires a thorough audit of documentation and risk management protocols, including employee interviews, to ensure the highest safety and compliance standards are met on the ground—not just on paper.

Advantage Steel & Construction General Superintendent, Michael McClafferty, received the Ironworker Employers Association of Western Pennsylvania's Jack Daley Safety Award on February 8, 2016 for excellence in safety/craftsmanship for work on the Jonathan Hulton Bridge in Oakmont, PA. The IWEA recognized Michael for maintaining a high level of safety, while overseeing over 40,000 man-hours on an extremely difficult erection project. The erection took place on land and over the Allegheny River in extremely harsh weather conditions. Michael was also instrumental in the safe execution of a strand jacking lift of over 1,000 tons. This was the first time such an endeavor was ever performed on a PennDOT bridge project.

The Oakley C. Collins Memorial Bridge, locally known as the Ironton-Russell Bridge, was recently awarded the American Segmental Bridge Institutes's (ASBI) 2017 Bridge Award of Excellence in the category of Long Span and Cable-Stayed Bridges. Unlike the original bridge, which connected downtown Ironton with downtown Russell, the new structure connects downtown Ironton directly with US 23 and KY 244 within the city limits of Russell just south of downtown. The new structure took approximately four and one half years to build and was opened on November 23, 2016, providing a main route for trucking and transportation in Ohio.

The new 2,616-ft.-long bridge is comprised of a 900-ft. cable-stayed main span and two 370-ft. cable stayed side spans, two 326-ft. tall towers and two anchor piers on the river’s edge.

Notably, the 900-ft. main span is the longest concrete span ODOT has ever built. The existing bridge remained open during construction until the new bridge was completed.  The innovative and first use of a precast stay anchor block system in the United States simplified stay cable anchorage placement, accelerated the construction schedule and simplified the form traveler systems by eliminating the need for a temporary stay anchor.

ASBI Jury members called the new bridge "An amazing technical and aesthetic achievement."

Advantage Steel and Construction General Foreman, Jason Richardson, was awarded the Ironworker Employers Association of Western Pennsylvania's Jack Daley Safety Award on February 7, 2018 for excellence in safety/craftsmanship for his work on the PTC WB-224B Bridge Replacement Project. Jason was recognized by the IWEA for maintaining a high level of safety, while overseeing over 4,000 man-hours on a complex project. In addition to the installation of a challenging temporary support system and erecting two bridges, Jason also safely coordinated the sliding of two bridges into place for the first time ever on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

Advantage Steel and Construction was part of the construction team awarded for their work on sliding the new WB-224 Bridge located in Beaver County into place for the PA Turnpike Commission.

The Fast 50 Awards, presented by the Pittsburgh Business Times, honors the areas most dynamic, privately held, locally based companies in western Pennsylvania. This years companies were ranked based on revenue growth rate between 2015 and 2017.
