Cape Fear Memorial Bridge Rehabilitation

Advantage Steel & Construction was subcontracted to erect and repair steel on the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge in New Hanover, NC. The scope of work included the removal and replacement of 120 grid deck panels, 168 stringers, 192 diaphragms, and 108 curb and median diaphragms.

The project faced several logistical and scheduling challenges. In order to allow ships to pass underneath the bridge, the lift span had to remain open during construction. Additionally, the work had to be completed in three months for the annual Azalea Festival in Wilmington.
